The (Johnstown) Tribune-Democrat says 26-year-old Patrick Burkett of Beaverdale apologized as he was sentenced Thursday in Cambria County court.

Burkett pleaded guilty in September to third-degree murder in the August 2012 death of 22-month-old Raegan Panick.

He sat between his attorneys with his face buried in his hands, sobbing as he listened to family members talk about their loss.

Asked by the judge why he killed the girl, Burkett said ``It was just one of those days. I just lost it. I shook her and hit her head on the floor. I don't know why I did it.''
