Philadelphia Police believe that the man who stabbed and killed a 22-year-old Drexel University student early Friday morning was likely acting in self defense.

Around 5 a.m. Evan Morris, a senior at Drexel’s Goodwin College, was stabbed three times -- once in the face, head and chest -- at a home in the 3400 block of Race Street, in Philadelphia's Powelton neighborhood, cops said.

The stabbing happened during an altercation between Morris and a community college student who lived in the house, said police.

Morris and a man in the house were allegedly involved in a early fight, authorities said.

Morris then later showed up at the house, broke down two doors and came at the man living in the home with a knife, witnesses told police.

The 22-year-old student was taken to University of Pennsylvania Hospital for treatment. He was pronounced dead just before 6 Friday morning.

Police took the homeowner in for questioning and released him. This appears to be a case of self defense and the man will likely not be charged, cops said.
