Man Dead After Car Crashes Into Gas Pump

Officials aren't sure what caused the man to drive into the pump

A man is dead after his car crashed into a gas pump and exploded into flames.

The accident happened at the BP station along the 1900 block of the Admiral Wilson Blvd. in Camden, N.J. just before 3 p.m. Friday, police said.

The unidentified man crashed his car into one of the pumps, knocking it over and setting his car ablaze.

Gas station attendants and customers tried to use extinguishers to put out the fire, but it quickly grew, officials said. The man was still inside the car when fire crews arrived.

Investigators are not sure what caused the man to drive into the pump. They are also unsure whether it was the fire or something prior that killed the man.

The Camden County Fire Marshall and Camden Police are investigating.
