Man Charged With Growing Marijuana Plants Worth $435K

Authorities in central New Jersey have arrested a man they say was growing β€œnumerous” marijuana plants behind his residence.

The Somerset County Prosecutor's office says a search of Rick Rivella's residence allegedly uncovered 145 marijuana plants growing behind the property.

Police estimate the street value of the drugs at $435,000.

The 46-year-old Hillsborough Township resident has been charged with manufacturing marijuana, a first degree offense.

It was not immediately known if he has an attorney.

Authorities say law enforcement, acting on a tip, searched the property on Thursday.

Rivella is being held at the Somerset County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.
