Man Arrested for Attempted Train Heist

Authorities say a drunken man attempted a not-so-great train robbery.

The Erie Times-News reports that a CSX freight train was stopped near Erie Wednesday after a highly intoxicated man allegedly told the conductor and engineer that he was taking over the train.

Police say they believe 28-year-old Robert Nerone Jr. of Jefferson, Ohio jumped the freight train in Ashtabula.

Millcreek police Capt. Randy Faipler says that as the train slowed while nearing Erie Nerone jumped from car to car until he reached the train's engine. Nerone then allegedly began pounding on the window and told the crew he was taking over the train.

The crew contacted authorities, and no one was injured.

Police say Nerone is facing public drunkenness and trespass charges. Nerone couldn't be reached for comment.
