Montgomery County Mother Shakes Baby: Police

A 6-month-old child was placed in a new home after Montgomery County authorities said the child’s mother shook the baby to the point of hospitalization.

Tykia Fitch called 911 on Sept. 10 to report her baby boy had become unresponsive inside their home on W 5th Street in Lansdale, said Lansdale Police.

Medics rushed the child to Grandview Hospital before transferring the boy to the Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania in critical condition. Doctors at CHOP determined the boy’s injuries matched those of shaken baby syndrome. So the child was placed in another household by Children Youth Services, said Lansdale Police.

On Tuesday, a district judge arraigned Fitch on multiple counts of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and child endangerment. The 35-year-old mother was sent to county jail after being unable to post $100,000 bail.
