Man Shot, Killed at Local “Hangout”

A recent string of violence continued overnight as a man was shot and killed in Philadelphia.

The yet to be identified 34-year-old was shot multiple times in the head, chest and back inside a clubhouse along the 3100 block of Montgomery Avenue in the city’s Strawberry Mansion section.

The man was inside the local hangout -- a place where people shoot pool -- when gunshots rang out around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

"Based on ballistic evidence, we know that at least eight shots were fired from a semi-automatic handgun," Small said. "Those fire shell casings were within feet of the body so we realize the shooter was within point-blank range when he shot this individual."

Two people inside the hangout were taken into custody for questioning.

No motive was given for the incident and no arrests were made as of Monday morning.

This deadly shooting wrapped up a violent weekend in Philly. At least three other people were shot and killed in the city over the weekend, at least two others were hurt in shootings and a father is accused of stabbing his 7-month-old son.
