An Essex County sheriff's officer is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her Newark home.
The county prosecutor's office says 31-year-old Dinis Oliveira turned himself in on Tuesday and was charged with sexual assault, official misconduct and criminal coercion.
The prosecutor's office says a 31-year-old woman called Newark police last Wednesday to say she had been sexually assaulted by a man who identified himself as a law enforcement officer.
Oliveira has been a sheriff's office since June.
