Drunk Burglar Gets Stuck, Calls Police

An alleged burglar was arrested after reportedly being trapped inside his 81-year-old victim’s home and calling for help.

On Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., New Castle County Police responded to the 800 block of Woodsdale Road in response to a call from 44-year-old John Finch of Wilmington.

When police arrived, they spoke to Finch through an open rear window, which happened to be the same window that Finch allegedly broke into.

Police say that Finch had broken into the home and had been there for several days. During that time he reportedly consumed a large amount of alcohol. Because of his drunken state, Finch was unable to climb out of the window or unlock the main doors that were secured from both sides.

The Police were able to free Finch and he was taken into custody. The homeowner was not there during the time.

Finch had an outstanding warrant for burglary in the second degree and felony theft after breaking into the same home in April of 2010.

At that time, police were unable to lift latent fingerprints from items found in the home. They were later placed into a fingerprint system where a match was received for Finch.

Finch is charged with two counts of burglary in the second degree and two counts of felony theft from both incidents. His arraignment is pending.
