Charges have been filed a southern New Jersey man who lost control of his car and crashed into an auto dealership, damaging eight vehicles on the lot.
Lakewood police tell the Asbury Park Press that 28-year-old Ruben Sanchez of Berkeley Township was driving on Ocean Avenue when the crash occurred around 2:15 a.m., Saturday. Authorities say Sanchez and a male passenger fled the scene and tried to hide in some bushes, but both men were found a short time later by police dogs.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Sanchez was charged with leaving scene of an accident and reckless driving. The man with Sanchez was not charged.
Sanchez was being held Saturday on an immigration detainer. It was not known if he has retained a lawyer.
