Delaware “Downton Abbey” Exhibit Breaks Attendance Record

Delaware's Winterthur Museum is breaking attendance records this year with its "Costumes of Downton Abbey" exhibit.

The News Journal reports the show had its 200,000th visitor Friday. That's double the museum's average attendance in an entire year. The museum's annual visitation usually is between 100,000 and 110,000.

The exhibit pairs clothing from the popular PBS show "Downton Abbey" with details about the differences between American and British country houses. It opened in March and will close on Jan. 4.

The museum says the exhibit has drawn visitors from nearly every state and as far away as Australia.

The museum, which was founded by H.F. du Pont as a decorative arts center, added lectures and special events to enhance the show of 40 costumes from the popular PBS drama.
