Death Penalty Sought in Elderly Woman's Stabbing Death

Prosecutors in central Pennsylvania say they'll seek the death penalty against a man in the killing of an 87-year-old relative of a witness in a sexual assault case against him.

Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico told WHTM-TV that 29-year-old DaJuan Porter broke into a Derry Township home early on June 11 and stabbed Joyce Roth as she slept.

Roth, from South Whitehall Township outside Allentown, was staying at her son's home to attend her great-granddaughter's high school graduation. Marsico says Porter killed Roth and set fire to another home to try to frighten witnesses from testifying against him in the sexual assault case.

Porter was free on bail when Roth was killed.

He's in Dauphin County Prison on charges of first-degree murder, arson and witness intimidation.
