Woman Dies in I-476 Crash

A 22-year-old woman is dead after she suddenly made a U-turn and began traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-476 early Friday morning.

Amelia Elizabeth Caglia, of Eagleville, Pennsylvania, was traveling northbound on I-476/Blue Route in a silver Toyota sedan near Conshohocken around 2 a.m. when for unknown reasons she changed directions and started heading south in the center northbound lane, according to authorities.

Caglia's vehicle smashed into a Philadelphia Inquirer box truck that was traveling in that lane near mile marker 17.3, according to police.

The truck flipped over on its side and medics transported the driver to Mercey Suburban Hospital with minor injuries, according to officials.

Caglia was pronounced dead at the scene.

The northbound side of the highway remained closed for about three hours following the crash.

Officials reopened one lane of traffic and the ramps between I-76 and I-476 around 5:15 a.m. The remaining two lanes were reopened by 5:40 a.m.
