Bread Truck Strikes, Kills Woman Checking Out Damaged SUV on I-95

2 other people hurt in early morning wreck

A bread truck struck the occupants of disabled sport utility vehicle on Interstate 95 Monday morning, killing one woman and landing two other people in the hospital.

The incident occurred just after 3 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 near mile-marker 6 approaching the I-476 interchange (Exit 7) in Chester, Delaware County.

A Mercury Mariner struck a puddle, lost control and struck the jersey barrier (concrete wall) before coming to rest between the left and center lanes, according to a preliminary report by Pennsylvania State Police.

The four occupants of the SUV then got out of the vehicle to inspect the damage when an Amoroso's bread truck struck three of them.

Doris Goldwire, 63, of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania died at the scene. Ricky Goldwire, 28, and Chakirah Chapman, 20, were rushed to Crozer Chester Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

A fourth person in the SUV and the driver of the box truck didn't suffer injuries, investigators said.

State police blocked all northbound lanes above Exit 6 (Route 320) for hours as the medical examiner investigated the wreck. Pennsylvania Route 291 served as an alternate route.

Crews cleared the wreck and reopened the road shortly before 8 a.m.

Police didn't charge the driver of the box truck.
