Correctional Officers Accused of Stealing From Inmate

Two officers have been fired from a western Pennsylvania county jail where an inmate's $2,800 went missing, while a third guard faces a disciplinary hearing.

The Beaver County Times reports 39-year-old Lt. Mario Monac and 37-year-old Sgt. Thomas Fouse have been fired by the county prison board. Fouse hasn't commented, but Monac told the prison board earlier this month that "at no point did I ever see, touch, take, steal, profit from or spend the money."

A third guard, 53-year-old Dan Fleishman still faces a disciplinary hearing. He's a member of the guard's union, unlike the two fired officers and, according to Monac, had accused the lieutenant of taking the female inmate's money in July.

The inmate has since been reimbursed from the Inmate Welfare Fund, which is fed with money from commissary and inmate phone fees.
