Christie Demands Teacher's Union Chief Resign Over Comments

Union chief said "life's not fair" for poor families in the education system.

Gov. Chris Christie is calling for the executive director of the New Jersey teacher's union to resign over comments the union chief made about the limited educational options available to poor families.

New Jersey Education Association chief Vincent Giordano told NJTV over the weekend that “life's not always fair" when discussing how poor families can't afford to pay to send their children to better schools.

The union has issued a statement saying Giordano admits his words could have been misinterpreted. They came during a discussion on school vouchers, which the union opposes.

The union says its leader meant to stress that providing vouchers to a select few students is not the way to address the challenges faced by urban schools.

Christie called the “life's-not-fair” comment “outrageous.”
