Father Showing Wife New Gun Shoots Girl, 2, in Leg: Delaware Police

Delaware State Police investigated a shooting that occurred in a family residence and left a 2-year-old injured.

Police said troopers were dispatched to a house on Muddy Neck Road in Ocean View at about 1 a.m. Sunday for a report that a child had been shot.

Police said investigators determined that 38-year-old Joseph Jenkins had shot his daughter in the leg while showing his wife a gun he'd just received.

An investigation revealed that a burglary report had been taken from Jenkins Saturday night stating that his gun had been stolen. Police said Jenkins then went to a friend's home and retrieved a handgun.

Jenkins was arrested and charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of a firearm during the commissioner of a felony.
