Authorities say shots fired on a street in a violence-plagued Delaware County city critically injured two people, including a woman hit by a stray bullet while sitting on the steps of her home.
Police told the Delaware County Daily Times that the gunfire erupted at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Chester.
Investigators said the woman was hit as well as a man in his early 20s believed to have been the intended target. Both were rushed to Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
Police say it was the day's third shooting in the city. A man injured in a 3 a.m. Wednesday shooting nearby and another man hit by gunfire several hours later were both in stable condition.
Investigators say they don't know whether any of the shootings are related.
Last year there were nearly 900 assaults and 23 homicides reported in Chester – it’s unknown how many involved guns. Less than half of those incidents were solved, according to state crime statistics.
