Cherry Hill Police Hunt for Suspect in Patrol Car Theft

Cherry Hill police say a burglary suspect who was fleeing from pursuing officers stole a patrol car early Sunday and later crashed it.

The incident began around 3:50 a.m., when police responded to a reported burglary at a Best Buy store. When officers arrived on scene, one suspect fled in a stolen car while two others drove off in a stolen van.

Police pursued both vehicles, and the driver of the stolen car soon bailed out and ran off on foot. A short time later, the suspect found an unattended patrol car and drove off in it.

The cruiser was later found on fire in Camden, and the suspect remained on the run early Sunday evening.

Authorities say a woman who was in the stolen van was later captured after a foot chase, but the other suspect eluded capture.
