Catch Some Rays…For a Price

The cost of beach tags has risen in some Jersey beach towns

Having to have a beach tag to sit on most of the Jersey Shore beaches is really annoying. And so are rising prices for beach tags.

Although towns like Surf City have dropped the price of their daily tag by a buck, many beaches have increased the cost of their tags. Brigantine, Cape May, Sea Girt and Toms River raised their daily beach fees by $1 and up'd the prices for their seasonal badges anywhere from $1 (in Brigantine) to $5 (Cape May and Toms River) to $10 (in Sea Girt).

Ocean City will remain at $10 per week and $5 per day for beach access and Avalon and Stone Harbor will hold tight at $12 a week and $6 daily. Seasonal tags are also available.

"People are looking for value and are looking for ways to stretch their dollar...so we haven't raised anything-- beach tags, parking, anything," Jim Rutala, says Ocean City's business administrator told The Inquirer.

In Atlantic County, Margate's tag prices have also remained the same (although Margate will offer a free beach day on Thursdays) while Ventnor, which does not offer a daily rate, doubled their weekly price from $5 to $10.

But if you're looking for the best deal for down the shore, hit up Wildwood or Atlantic City -- they're both free.
