Dozens of union members gathered outside an Atlantic City casino Saturday to protest their lack of a contract.

The daylong picketing staged at the Tropicana Casino and Resort was organized by members of Local 54 of Unite-HERE, the city's main casino workers union. It was led by 21 Tropicana workers who were recently reinstated to their jobs after being suspended for 30 days following a similar protest last month.

The suspended workers represented all the Tropicana protesters who blocked traffic and were arrested as part of the June 15 demonstration.

Union officials said several hundred members overall would take part in the 12-hour protest, which started at 8 a.m.

The union has staged several events in recent months to protest their protracted contract stalemate with the Tropicana, which is one of three of Atlantic City's 12 casinos without a current contract with Local 54. The union also is unhappy with the casino's termination of its employee pension plan in favor of cash payments to workers.

Tropicana officials have said they are prepared for whatever the union might do, including a strike.
