Manhunt Underway After Woman Stabbed to Death in South Jersey Driveway

A manhunt is underway for the man who investigators believe stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death in the driveway of her South Jersey home Wednesday night.

Camden County prosecutors announced Thursday they are searching for 45-year-old Michael Eitel. He's wanted for the death of Carole Bowne.

Berlin Township Police found the 39-year-old's body in the driveway of her Patton Avenue home around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday after getting several 911 calls. Bowne suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead around 11:20 p.m. at Virtua Hospital, according to investigators.

"I've known her for years and she just cared for anybody and it's tragic and I'm mad because it just didn't have to happen like this," Bowne's friend and neighbor Renee Smiley said through tears. The woman's 40th birthday was coming up Saturday.

Eitel came to the woman's home following an argument with a different woman at another home, detectives said. Bowne had a restraining order against the man who she began dating after the death of her husband in a motorcycle crash three years ago, according to friends and investigators.

The U.S. Fugitive Task Force has been called to find Eitel, who has a documented criminal history, according to investigators, including kidnapping, assault and illegal gun possession.

"He seemed OK in the beginning and then there was something almost off, I guess," Smiley said of Eitel.
