After nearly a month of searching, a Philadelphia couple finally found their missing dog.
Eric Morrison, the owner of Bentley, a 5-year-old Maltese Yorkie mix, told NBC10 he last saw his dog back on May 14 inside his apartment on 18th Street and Fairmount Avenue.
“I live with a roommate,” Morrison said. “We both went out at the same time to work that morning. My roommate misplaced his keys so he didn’t lock the door inside our apartment.”
Morrison says he received a call from his roommate around 6:30 p.m. that night while he was still at work, telling him he had just gotten home and Bentley was nowhere to be found.
“He asked me if I had taken the dog out,” he said. “I said ‘no, I don’t have him,’ and my heart dropped in my chest immediately.’”
Morrison returned home and searched throughout the apartment but couldn’t find him. Morrison and his girlfriend began posting fliers around the neighborhood and contacted police. While Morrison says police are investigating the incident as a missing dog case, he was convinced Bentley was stolen.
“Somebody came into our unit and took the dog,” he said. “Somebody has to have access to get through those doors. It was somebody who felt comfortable enough with the building to know that we weren’t home and went inside.”

Morrison and his girlfriend started a Facebook group to raise awareness as well as a GoFundMe page to raise money in the search effort. They also reached out to the same group that helped find a dog that was stolen from a South Philly Home Depot last year.
After NBC10 published a story on Bentley Sunday night, Morrison says a family from Kensington reached out to to him, claiming they had found Bentley in Pulaski Park in Port Richmond and had been taking care of him. After seeing our story, they contacted Morrison, letting him know his pet was safe. Morrison shared the happy news in the Facebook group, thanking the family as well as everyone who helped with the search.
