Baptist Temple Reopens at Temple U After 30 Years

$30 million renovations revealed on historic temple Wednesday

The Baptist temple that hosted the likes of Martin Luther King Jr., Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Margaret Mead and Helen Keller reopened its doors after being closed for 30 years on Temple University campus Wednesday.

Temple University unveiled the 36,000-square-foot Baptist temple located at the heart of its campus, which was home to some of its earliest classes and will now serve as a center for arts and cultural performances.

Mayor Michael Nutter was in attendance Wednesday afternoon as Temple celebrated and displayed the $30 million renovations to the historic building.

In addition to be an arts and cultural center, the temple will also be used as a space for meetings, symposia and other events. For tickets, to rent or for general information about the newly reopened Baptist temple go to www.thebaptisttemple.org.
