Baby Dies After Abuse: DA

Authorities say a 10-month-old baby boy has died after allegedly being beaten by his mother's boyfriend.

The Scranton Times-Tribune reports that the child died Friday, after the alleged abuse earlier this week.

First Assistant District Attorney Gene Talerico says more charges will be filed on Monday against the mother's boyfriend, 23-year-old Eddie Widdick.

Widdick, of Jermyn, has already been charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He's being held in the Lackawanna County jail, unable to post $150,000 bond.

Widdick allegedly called his girlfriend, Ashley Nelson, on Wednesday morning to say the child wasn't breathing right. Widdick later allegedly admitted he dropped the infant down a flight of steps and forcefully put him into a crib.

Nelson hasn't been charged.
