Authorities: Revived Swimmer Succumbs to Injuries

A New Hampshire woman who was pulled from the ocean after getting caught in a rip current off Atlantic City earlier this month has died.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that 59-year-old Rita Hrycuna was taken off life support Saturday morning.

Family members say Hrycuna was visiting the area with her husband and teenage daughter when the accident occurred Aug. 4. Lifeguards were not on duty at that beach where she was swimming, but those who stay late at a nearby beach rushed to the scene and pulled her out using a personal watercraft.

Hrycuna was first reported to have drowned that day, but authorities later announced she had been revived. She was the mother of four children and grandmother of 13.
