Allegheny County Executive to Turn Over County Historical Records

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald wants to turn over the county's historical records to an entity dedicated to the region's history, the Senator John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh.

A resolution will be introduced at County Council's Feb. 3 meeting, before the matter will be considered by a council committee.

Fitzgerald says the records provide a ``picture of what events, issues and initiatives were important in our county's history.''

If approved, the records to be turned over would include minute books dating to 1868 and records up to Dec. 27, 1999.

That was the last time the county was governed by a three-member board of commissioners before a home-rule charter changed the government to the executive and 15-member council.
