3 Dead in Fiery Highway Crash

A fiery crash involving multiple vehicles has killed three people on Interstate 78 in eastern Pennsylvania.

The accident was reported shortly after 1 p.m. Monday on the eastbound side of the highway in Greenwich Township, Berks County.

According to state police, seven vehicles including a tractor-trailer were involved in the crash.

Investigators said the tractor-trailer was attempting to pass a slow-moving box truck in the right lane and struck a car. That triggered a chain-reaction crash involving those three vehicles and four others, several of which burst into flames.

Emergency crews from Berks and Lehigh counties responded to the scene.

The highway near the accident scene was shut down for several hours before it finally reopened around 11 p.m.
