2 Killed in New Jersey Ditch Collapse

Two landscapers have died after they were trapped in a large, excavated hole outside a northern New Jersey home.

The accident occurred around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday when the trench gave way while the workers were excavating a drainage pipe at the Rockaway Valley Road home in Boonton.

One worker became trapped and another man jumped in to try and save him. Both men were soon under about 10 feet of dirt.

One body was recovered Wednesday afternoon. Mayor Cy Wekilsky tells News 12 New Jersey authorities have recovered the body of the second man.

The accident remains under investigation.
