1 Dead After Firehouse Fire

Police tell NBC10 the fire started when a dump truck crashed into the Leightsville Fire House in Hellertown

One person was found dead inside the Leightsville Fire House in Hellertown after a fire was put out Thursday afternoon.

The fire started just before 1:00 p.m. when a dump truck crashed into the building, according to Sgt. Thomas Barndt, Lower Saucon Township Police Department.

The truck and firehouse quickly became engulfed in flames. Two witnesses ran over to help and made sure the dump truck driver made it out safely.

That driver is listed in stable condition with burns at St. Luke's Hospital as of Thursday night.

It wasn't until after the fire was put out that a person's body was discovered inside a vehicle in the firehouse.

The identity of the victim hasn't been released.
