Philly Goes Into Snow Emergency Mode

The city of Philadelphia went into "snow emergency" mode Sunday, right as the worst of the storm was expected to kick in, bringing the first major snowfall of the season -- between six and 12 inches predicted for the city.

"This will be a very challenging event," the Mayor said. "The city is ready. We'll deal iwth whatever comes at us and fight this storm as best we can."

The Eagles game was postponed until Tuesday at 8 p.m. on NBC.

If you live in the city, these are the major reminders from the Mayor:

  • Get off the Snow Emergency routes. Towing starts at 2 p.m.
  • Clear sidewalk paths 36" wide within six hours of the end of the storm.
  • Help the city clear snow from the sewer drains.
  • Park cars as far away from the corners as possible so plows can get through.
  • Call 311 for reports of streets that need plowing.
  • Check on your elderly and ailing neighbors. Shovel their sidewalks.
  • Code Blue is in effect for the homeless. Call 215-232-1984 if you see someone who needs help.
