The Philadelphia Marathon has a new top sponsor with area ties.

Mayor Michael Nutter announced Thursday that Gore-Tex is joining the Philadelphia Marathon as title sponsor for the race's 20th anniversary this year.

"Working with Gore, a highly-regarded, global innovator and manufacturer, we can strengthen our commitment to this annual tradition which is considered one of the finest marathons in the United States,” said Nutter.

The company is putting up $600,000 over three years as the title sponsor.

More than 30,000 people are expected to turn out on the weekend of Nov. 15-17 for three races: the marathon, a half-marathon and an 8K run.

Delaware-based W.L. Gore & Associates is the manufacturer of the Gore-Tex product line of high-performance fabrics for jackets and shoes.
