Fire Forces Residents From Montgomery County High-Rise

Smoke caused the evacuation of a Montgomery County high-rise Saturday and landed residents in the hospital.

The fire broke out around noon on the 11th floor of Building 1 at The Towers at Wyncote, said Montgomery County Dispatchers.

Firefighters worked to quickly evacuate the 12-story building as they searched for the cause of the fire. Some residents went out onto their balconies to escape the smoke, said dispatchers.

An unknown number of residents suffered smoke inhalation and were treated at local hospitals, said dispatchers.

The fire quickly spread to three alarms due to the size of the building, said dispatchers. Crews didn't evacuate residents from the other buildings in the complex.

Within an hour the majority of the fire was knocked down, said investigators.

The Red Cross and Red Paws responded to help residents.
