Temple Officer Shoots at Robbery Suspect

Campus officials say suspect pointed his gun at the officer Monday morning

An alleged robber led police on a chase near Temple University Monday that resulted in one officer firing his weapon.

No one was hurt during the daylight incidents.

A Temple University Police officer shot at the alleged thief after the suspect pointed a gun at the officer as the officer pursued him on foot near the corner of Broad Street and Susquehanna Avenue in North Philadelphia, according to a Temple University spokesman.

Here is the sequence of events, according to the campus spokesman.

Around 11 a.m. a Temple student reported that she was held up at gunpoint just off campus. She gave police a description of the suspect and the weapon he used.

A bulletin went out to all Temple officers and soon after one of those officers witnessed a man matching the description, which police have yet to release to the media, allegedly holding up a local resident a few blocks away.

The officer pursued on foot. That was when the suspect allegedly pointed his gun at the cop and the officer pulled out his weapon -- firing at the suspect.

The suspect wasn’t hit and didn't fire any shots at the officer, officials said.

Philadelphia and Temple Police arrested the suspect a short time later in a nearby neighborhood.
