Deadly Stabbing Just Feet From Drexel University

Someone stabbed a man to death in a home a short distance from Philadelphia’s Drexel University Thursday night.

Philadelphia Police responded to a home on the 3200 block of Summer Street in Powelton Village just after 7:30 p.m.

"It appears to have been a violent incident," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Inside the home, officers found a 57-year-old man stabbed multiple times in the head, neck and torso leaning against some kitchen cabinets. Medics arrived and declared the man dead a short time later, according to investigators.

There was blood on walls and the floor in multiple homes.

Small said a 3-year-old child was asleep in the home at the time of the attack and two women were also in the home. None of them were hurt..

"We know that there was some sort of argument... that resulted in this stabbing," said Small.

Police took a 59-year-old man -- described by witnesses as the stabber -- into custody for questioning. Police found a bloody knife in the home.

The home sits less than a block from Drexel University. Small said the incident had nothing to do with the campus.
