Agents Find 156 Pounds of Pot in Truck Near New York-Canada Border

FILE - In this Dec. 5, 2013, photo marijuana matures in ideal conditions at the Medicine Man dispensary and grow operation in northeast Denver.

U.S. border officers say they found 156 pounds of marijuana hidden in a tractor-trailer that was leaving for Canada.

Customs and Border Protection says the 48-year-old driver, Russell Gavin of Coldwater, Ontario, was arrested Thursday at the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge north of Buffalo.

The agents were conducting random outbound inspections when they stopped Gavin, who was carrying a shipment of plants from Florida into Canada. Authorities say an X-ray of the truck revealed hidden brick-like bundles of marijuana.

Gavin was turned over to State Police. It was unknown if he has a lawyer.
