Elton John Cancels Concerts After Hospitalization

The piano legend had a serious respiratory illness

Elton John is cancelling three Las Vegas performances, a day after he checked into the hospital with a "serious respiratory infection."

The piano-playing legend announced Thursday that he was scuttling a trio of his "Million Dollar Piano" residency concerts at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

According to John's site, he developed a serious respiratory infection last weekend during one of the shows, and after his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

After undergoing a series of tests, John's doctors told him not to perform for the next week and instead to take antibiotics and rest.

"It feels strange not to be able to perform," John said. "I love performing this show... All I can say to the fans is sorry I can't be with you."

The venue said it would give all ticket-holders refunds.
