Al Jarreau is Discharged From French Hospital

A cardiologist says that singer Al Jarreau has been released from a French hospital after being treated there for over a week, The Associated Press reported.

The Grammy-winning artist, 70, was in intensive care Jul. 23 after experiencing problems breathing prior to his concert in Barcelonette. According to his Web site, Jarreauโ€™s body had trouble to adjust to the altitude in the Alps, which led to difficulties in breathing. He was later moved to a hospital in Marseille.

"He wants to return to the stage and see his fans," said Jean-Louis Bonnet, chief of the cardiology unit at La Timone hospital, according to the AP. He also said that he cautioned Jarreau not to exert himself.

Jarreauโ€™s condition forced him to cancel several dates of his tour. On his Web site, Jarreau plans to resume performance schedule starting Tuesday in Hanau, Germany. โ€œHe has been working hard to recover and prepare himself for his return to work,โ€ it said.
