Woody Allen Casts Carla Bruni for French Flick

France's first lady to play "secondary role" in Paris-based film

Woody Allen has cast France’s first lady Carla Bruni in his next film, but don't expect her to earn the same screen time as Allen's past muses: Mia Farrow, Diane Keaton and Scarlet Johansson.

Barcelona-based producer Javier Mendez  tells Variety Bruni will play a “secondary role.”

Details on the Oscar-winning director's newest project are scant: Mendez, who's lined up work with Allen for three films, says the English-French flick will likely be shot in Paris and cost $30 million.

Allen reportedly bowed out of the last film he planned to shoot in Paris because of money woes. This time he's set to recoup 20 percent of expenses from a government tax rebate, a French Film Commission rep tells Variety.

The "Annie Hall" director's latest project, London-based “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger,” is now in post-production, according to Variety. The film stars Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins and Antonio Banderas.
