School Bus Driver Drinks, Drives: Cops

A former Bucks County school bus driver was arrested Tuesday for allegedly being drunk behind the wheel when she crashed her bus last month.

No students were onboard at the time of the crash. Kim Townsend had just dropped kids off at school before the wreck, according to Bensalem Police.

The crash happened on June 15 when Townsend ran her empty school bus into another vehicle at Knights Road and Street Road, police said.

Blood was taken from the 45-year-old Bensalem woman about an hour after the wreck, according to cops. The results of the blood test found that Townsend’s blood alcohol level was allegedly at .19 percent -- more than twice the legal limit of .08.

Townsend faces DUI, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of children charges.

She was arraigned Tuesday and sent to Bucks County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $150,000 bail.

Townsend resigned from her bus driving post, according to cops.
