The Reading Phillies announced plans to renovate their 60-year-old ballpark, FirstEnergy Stadium.
The renovations will take place over the next two off-seasons and cost $10-million. Half of the costs depend on a $5-million state grant, while the team and city will foot the rest of the bill.
The makeover includes moving the entrance to the right-field side where a new concession concourse will reside, adding nearly 500 parking spots and revamping the team locker rooms.
The team originally wanted a completely new stadium, but had to settle for the newly planned renovations after the city ditched the proposal.
The decision to renovate instead of rebuild was largely a result of the R-Philsβ lease on the ballpark, which runs through 2021 and holds the city responsible for repairs and maintenance costs.
