NFL Notes: Will Smith's BAC Reportedly Was 3 Times Legal Limit

NEW ORLEANS -- Lawyers for a man charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of retired New Orleans Saints star Will Smith asked a judge Wednesday to give them a police report that doesn't omit the names of witnesses.

Lawyers for Cardell Hayes say they are entitled to the witness identities and that the report has been redacted to the point that it's difficult to understand. Prosecutors say they are worried about the safety of witnesses whose names are made public.

State District Judge Camille Buras said she wanted to read the police report before deciding whether to release it. It wasn't clear when she would make her decision.

Police have said the shooting April 9 occurred after Hayes's Hummer hit Smith's Mercedes SUV from behind and they got into an argument.

According to ESPN.com, Smith's blood alcohol content was .235, almost three times the legal limit in Louisiana (.08).

Hayes' defense lawyer, John Fuller, has said Hayes was not the aggressor and that a witness saw a gun in Smith's possession. A loaded gun was found in Smith's vehicle, police say.

Fuller has hinted at a self-defense claim and noted Hayes stayed at the scene of the shooting until police arrived.

Rams: Foles skips workout
OXNARD, Calif. -- Quarterback Nick Foles skipped a voluntary offseason workout this week with the Los Angeles Rams, who recently drafted Jared Goff with the top overall pick.

The Rams confirmed that Foles missed Tuesday's workout at their offseason training headquarters. Their organized team activities continue Wednesday.

Foles joined the Rams in St. Louis during the previous offseason and agreed to a two-year, $24.5 million contract extension.

He started the first nine games but was benched in favor of Case Keenum. The Rams finished last season with the NFL's worst passing offense.

Foles made a $6 million roster bonus in March, but the Rams traded up to draft Goff with the top overall pick in April. Coach Jeff Fisher has said he hopes Goff will start their season opener.

Bills: Watkins hopes to have boot removed by Thursday
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills starting receiver Sammy Watkins hopes to have the walking boot removed from his surgically repaired left foot by as early as Thursday.

As for when he'll be cleared for practice, Watkins still isn't sure.

Watkins says there's still no definitive timetable, though he didn't rule out the possibility of returning to the field at some point during training camp.

Watkins provided the update Wednesday after watching practice from the sideline as the Bills held their second week of voluntary practice sessions. It was the first time Watkins has spoken since having two screws inserted into his foot to repair a stress fracture in April.

Watkins said he's not sure when the fracture occurred. He said it was discovered while taking a physical two months ago.
