Former Eagle Donnel Pumphrey Signs With Lions

Donnel Pumphrey has found a new home. And it didn't take that long.

According to NFL Network, the Detroit Lions are signing the Eagles' fourth-round pick from a year ago to their practice squad.

Despite clearing waivers after the Eagles released him, Pumphrey is already back in the NFL.

Pumphrey, 23, was waived by the Eagles on Saturday as the team decided to keep Wendell Smallwood as its fourth running back. Pumphrey got off to a pretty good start this summer at training camp but a hamstring injury derailed most of his summer.

It was a disappointing two years for Pump in Philly. The Eagles traded up in the fourth round to get the small running back out of San Diego State after his prolific college career, but he never got going here. He struggled last spring and summer and after making the initial 53-man roster, was stashed on IR. He never played in a regular season game with the Birds.

It seemed like Pump was going to have a good shot to make this year's team, but the injury never let that happen. The Eagles cut ties with him after just two disappointing years.

In Detroit, Pump will reunite with former Eagles running back LeGarrette Blount, who signed with the Lions as a free agent this offseason.
