Former Eagles Players Weigh in on Jalen Hurts-Carson Wentz Quarterback Controversy

Former Eagles weigh in on the Hurts-Wentz QB controversy originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

The Eagles' first half against the Packers was a slog of a football game. The second half was as explosive as it gets.

Jalen Hurts took over for Carson Wentz at quarterback after another listless performance from Wentz, and Hurts looked as good as you'd hope for from a rookie thrust into his first regular season action mid-game.

Hurts finished 5-of-12 for 109 yards, with one touchdown and one interception, and also ran five times for 29 yards. Wentz finished 6-of-15 for 79 yards, with three rushes for 18 yards.

The situation football fans had been wondering about finally came to fruition: Wentz was bad enough to get benched, and Hurts actually looked like an NFL quarterback.

So of course the hot takes started flowing, including opinions from a number of former Eagles players.

Super Bowl LII champion Torrey Smith was excited to see Doug Pederson finally let Hurts play quarterback, not glorified running back:

Former Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho loved Hurts' throw to Jalen Reagor on his first full series:

Former OL Tra Thomas loved Hurts' fourth down touchdown throw:

Super Bowl LII champion Chris Long expects it'll be an insane week in this city (he's right):

Even former Eagles cornerback Rasul Douglas and former Sixers guard Josh Richardson

So is it time for a full-time change? Mitchell and Acho seem to think so:

Smith offered a more nuanced take on this suddenly insane situation:

We'll see what happens, but it's clear Eagles fans - and former Eagles players - are all talking about one thing after Sunday's rollercoaster of a football game.

And it's not going away anytime soon.
