There was lots of "running, running, running" at Eagles training camp in South Philadelphia on Monday and the Birds had the tunes to go along with it.
Eagles beat reporters were pleasantly surprised to hear the Grateful Dead's Bertha playing over the camp speakers upon the start of camp on Monday.
After much speculation that the playlist had to be the handy work of assistant coach Cory Undlin, it was determined that the Dead playlist was Malcolm Jenkins' doing.
"I just started getting into [the Grateful Dead] in the last few months," Jenkins told Reuben Frank. "Trying to expand my musical palette a little bit. I don't think any of the guys had any idea what it was."
The set of Dead songs included Bertha, Mama Tried, Big Railroad Blues, Playing in the Band, Drums and Space, and Me and my Uncle. That's when DeSean Jackson stepped in and told the DJ to play some beats.
DJacc later revealed he wasn't exactly hating, just needed a change.

"It was cool for a while, but had to spice it up a little bit, man," Jackson told Reuben Frank of the Dead tunes.
"Had to change it up a little bit and get some more energy going out there. Mr. Lurie came over and said something about one of the songs he used to listen to when he was 17. I was like, when you were 17 I wasn't even thought of back then. But it was all good. I told Doug, ‘We gotta change this up,' he said, ‘I didn't tell anybody to put this on.' But just good to get out there and get some good music when you're practicing. We're out there, body's hurting and got to just trick our mentality sometimes and get us energized and get ourselves going."
Then Jackson looked at Nelson Agholor in his locker and said, "That was Nelly music. The first 25 minutes, that was Nelly music."
"Noooo it wasn't," Agholor said.
Here's the full Dead playlist at practice:

Training camp music is generally hip-hop and rap but we're opening with the Grateful Dead's Bertha today. Best song that's ever been played at camp. Hoping for Tennessee Jed, Cumberland Blues and Franklin's Tower next.— Reuben Frank (@RoobNBCS) August 5, 2019
