Phillies Activate Cody Asche From DL; DFA David Lough

Cody Asche is finally ready. After missing all of spring training and the first six weeks of the regular season with an oblique injury, Asche completed his 20-day rehab assignment and was activated by the Phillies Thursday.

Asche takes the place of David Lough on the Phils' 25-man roster. Lough was designated for assignment.

Asche, 25, hit .169 with four homers, eight RBIs and 19 strikeouts in 15 rehab games with Clearwater, Reading and Lehigh Valley. The Phillies will use him as a leftfielder against right-handed pitching, hoping he can give them more pop than the others they've used in that role. Phillies leftfielders have hit .208 this season and their rightfielders have hit .211.

This is an important year for Asche, who hasn't hit enough during his 300-game MLB career. In 1,069 plate appearances, Asche has batted .246/.301/.392 with full-season averages of 30 doubles and 15 home runs. He'll certainly have the opportunities the rest of the way, as the Phils are using 2016 to see what potential pieces of their future can do.

Hollands to AAA
The Phillies also activated left-handed reliever Mario Hollands from the 15-day DL and optioned him to Triple A Lehigh Valley. Hollands underwent Tommy John surgery last April.

The 27-year-old pitched in eight games during a rehab assignment, allowing two earned runs in 12⅓ innings with 13 strikeouts.
