Best of MLB: Bumgarner Bests Arrieta in Giants' 3-2 Win

CHICAGO -- Madison Bumgarner outpitched Jake Arrieta with 10 strikeouts over six innings, and the San Francisco Giants pounced on rare miscues by the Chicago Cubs in a 3-2 victory on Saturday.

Bumgarner (14-8) allowed two runs and five hits in his fourth victory in his last five starts. San Francisco, trying to catch Los Angeles in the NL West, rebounded from a pair of one-run losses in the first two games of the four-game set against the major league leaders.

Arrieta (16-6) was charged with three runs -- two earned -- and four hits in six innings in his first loss since July 30. The Cubs had won five in a row overall (see full recap).

Rangers throttle Astros for seventh straight win
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Adrian Beltre and Nomar Mazara each homered, Derek Holland pitched his third straight quality start since coming off the disabled list and the Texas Rangers beat the Houston Astros 12-4 on Saturday for their seventh straight victory.

After trailing 1-0, the Rangers got their major league-high 42nd come-from-behind win. They've won eight of nine and scored at least 10 runs in each of their past three games.

AL West-leading Texas is 13-2 against the Astros this season and 37-19 against the division.

Holland (7-6) pitched six innings, allowing two runs, six hits and three walks.

Orioles blank Yankees to help AL Wild Card chances
BALTIMORE -- Kevin Gausman outpitched CC Sabathia for the second time in seven days, Adam Jones homered and the Baltimore Orioles got their third straight shutout against the New York Yankees, 2-0 on Saturday night.

Gausman (7-10) allowed two hits and two walks over six innings to win his fourth straight start. He struck out eight and permitted only one runner past second base.

The right-hander threw seven shutout innings in New York last Sunday and is 2-1 with an 0.80 ERA in five starts against the Yankees this season.

Zach Britton, the third Baltimore reliever, worked a perfect ninth for his 40th save in 40 opportunities.

The victory moved the third-place Orioles within two games of the top spot in the AL East.

Sabathia (8-12) gave up two runs, one earned, in six innings. All it got him was another loss against the Orioles, the third in a row since mid-July (see full recap).
