Steve Mason Exits in 3rd Period of Flyers-Devils With Injury

NEWARK, N.J. -- When it rains, it pours.

With the Flyers trailing to the hapless Devils, 3-2, early in the third period Thursday at the Prudential Center, goalie Steve Mason injured himself trying to stop a breakaway goal by forward Taylor Hall.

Mason went to a full split but was unsuccessful in the save attempt. He stayed down on the ice face-first before eventually rising to one knee once attended to by a team trainer.

After a few minutes of evaluation, Mason was taken out for backup Michal Neuvirth. Mason skated off the ice with the staff member by his side.

There was no immediate word on his condition.

Mason allowed four goals on 23 shots in 41:29 ice time.
