Eagles Fans Booed Refs, Not Joe Biden

The Associated Press recap of last night's Giants-Eagles game includes this interesting tidbit:

The Giants and Eagles played in front of a special guest. Vice President-elect Joe Biden watched the game in a luxury suite with Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie. Biden was booed when he was showed on the video screen.

The Drudge Report and a number of political blogs have picked up on the story of Biden getting booed by Philly fans, but there's just one problem: The fans were booing the officials, not Biden.

Biden was shown both on NBC and on the big screens at Lincoln Financial Field immediately after Giants quarterback Eli Manning had spiked the ball to avoid a sack. Manning should have been called for intentional grounding, but for some reason the referee didn't throw the flag. So the fans started booing the ref.

Maybe Biden would have been booed if he had been shown during a lull in the action, or maybe he would have been cheered. But it's doubtful that many Eagles fans cared much who was on the big screen at the time of the booing that the Associated Press describes. When the home team just got screwed by a bad call, football fans aren't thinking about expressing their political views.
