Best of MLB: Rangers, Jays Brawl After Odor Punches Bautista

ARLINGTON, Texas -- A feud simmering since Jose Bautista's bat flip in last year's AL Division Series boiled over into a wild brawl in the final game of the season between Toronto and Texas, a 7-6 victory for the Rangers on Sunday.

Bautista and Texas second baseman Rougned Odor got into a fistfight behind the bag after a hard slide by the Toronto slugger in the eighth inning. Players from both teams rushed the field as Odor landed a punch to Bautista's face.

Umpires needed about 10 minutes to restore order, and Blue Jays reliever Jesse Chavez hit Prince Fielder with the next pitch when the game resumed. He was ejected after an earlier warning for both teams when Bautista was hit by a pitch from Matt Bush.

Toronto manager John Gibbons was among eight ejections in the game after an argument in the third inning, but he was back on the field during the brawl.

First base coach Tim Leiper was tossed in a separate argument in the third, and bench coach Demarlo Hale, filling in for Gibbons, was ejected when Chavez (0-1) hit Fielder.

Ian Desmond hit a three-run homer in the seventh to give Bush his first major league win two days after the 30-year-old rookie made his major league debut.

Bush (1-0), a former No. 1 overall pick whose career was derailed by several alcohol-related incidents, was released from prison in October after serving 3 1/2 years in a drunken-driving case that seriously injured a 72-year-old man on a motorcycle.

Desmond finished with four RBIs. Adrian Beltre's sixth homer was the first by a right-handed hitter in 342 career attempts against Toronto starter Aaron Sanchez.

The brawl started when Bautista slid through the base at second, forcing Odor to throw wildly to first on an attempted double play. Odor turned to Bautista and shoved him before landing the punch.

Texas was awarded an inning-ending double play on the Chase Utley rule, and Sam Dyson pitched a perfect ninth for his second save of the season.

Dyson was on the mound when Bautista famously flipped his bat on a clutch three-run homer in the seventh inning of the deciding fifth game of last year's division series in Toronto (see full recap).

Fernandez stars on mound and with bat in Marlins' win over Nats
WASHINGTON -- Jose Fernandez struck out 11 over seven innings and drove in two runs during a three-run sixth to help Miami defeat Washington.

Giancarlo Stanton hit his 11th home run as Miami salvaged a four-game split. He also survived an outfield collision with Marcell Ozuna that led to Ryan Zimmerman's inside-the-park home run for Washington.

Fernandez (5-2) threw a career-high 117 pitches while allowing the one run on four hits and three walks.

A.J. Ramos came on in the ninth for his 11th save.

Nationals starter Joe Ross (3-3) allowed five runs -- three earned -- over 5 2/3 innings (see full recap).

Rayburn's pinch-hit homer gives Rockies sweep over Mets
DENVER -- Pinch-hitter Ryan Raburn came through with a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning that carried Colorado past New York for a three-game sweep.

Tyler Chatwood (5-3) pitched seven solid innings and Carlos Gonzalez also homered for the Rockies, who swept the Mets for the first time since April 2013.

Yoenis Cespedes homered but it wasn't enough for the Mets, who wasted a strong start by Jacob deGrom and finished 4-7 on their NL West road trip.

DeGrom allowed just three hits until Gonzalez went deep with two outs in the sixth. DJ LeMahieu led off the seventh with a 12-pitch walk against deGrom, who left one out later.

Jim Henderson (0-2) came on and Raburn hit a 2-2 pitch into the Rockies' bullpen.

That took away a potential win from deGrom, who yielded three runs and four hits in 6 1/3 innings (see full recap).

Beltran hits 400th career home run in Yankees' win over White Sox
NEW YORK -- Pinch-hitter Chase Headley lined a tiebreaking double in the seventh inning, Carlos Beltran launched his 400th career home run and the New York Yankees wrapped up a successful homestand by beating the Chicago White Sox 7-5 Sunday.

The Yankees overcame a hiccup by reliever Dellin Betances to finish 7-3 against the White Sox, Kansas City and Boston, a much-needed boost for the last-place team.

The AL Central-leading White Sox have dropped four of five overall, and lost for the 13th time in their last 15 games at Yankee Stadium (see full recap).

Lester loses no-hit bit in seventh, Pirates top Cubs
CHICAGO -- Starling Marte singled with one out in the seventh inning to end Jon Lester's no-hit bid, then scored on Jung Ho Kang's double to put Gerrit Cole and the Pittsburgh Pirates ahead to stay in a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.

Kang added an eighth-inning home run to help the Pirates beat the major league-leading Cubs for the first time in six tries this season.

Cole (4-3) allowed three hits in eight shutout innings. Mark Melancon gave up a run in a shaky ninth but held on for his 11th save in 12 chances.

Lester (4-2), who threw a no-hitter with Boston in 2008, had permitted only two walks and retired 16 straight batters before Marte's opposite-field liner to right on a changeup.

Marte stole second and scored on Kang's drive to the gap in right-center, chasing Lester after 109 pitches. He struck out nine (see full recap).

Bogaerts, Hanigan lead Red Sox to wild win over Astros
BOSTON -- Xander Bogaerts hit a three-run homer and Ryan Hanigan had three singles and drove in four to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 10-9 victory over the Houston Astros on Sunday.

It was the seventh win in eight games for the Red Sox, and completed a 6-1 homestand in which they score 73 runs.

Boston's Jackie Bradley Jr. had a single to extend his majors' longest hitting streak this season to 21 games.

Luis Valbuena had a three-run homer and five RBIs for the Astros, and Carlos Correa added a solo homer.

Heath Hembree (2-0) pitched two innings of relief for the win. Craig Kimbrel got the final three outs for his 10th save.

Scott Feldman (2-3) took the loss (see full recap).
